Topics
Topics are thematic threads that run through your network. Where people and organizations represent who you know, topics represent what connects them — the ideas, projects, and themes that link people and organizations together.
What Is a Topic?
Section titled “What Is a Topic?”A topic might be something like:
- AI research — a theme connecting several colleagues, papers, and companies
- Fundraising — linking investors, advisors, and related meeting notes
- Product launch — connecting team members, vendors, and project documents
- Climate tech — a personal interest area with associated contacts and readings
Topics let you navigate your network by idea rather than by person or company.
What You Can Store for Each Topic
Section titled “What You Can Store for Each Topic”| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The topic label (short and specific works best) |
| Description | A sentence or two explaining what this topic covers |
| Linked People | Contacts relevant to this topic |
| Linked Organizations | Companies or groups relevant to this topic |
| Related Notes | Vault notes connected to this theme |
Adding Topics
Section titled “Adding Topics”Through the UI: Open the Topics tab and click the + button.
Through chat: Ask Atlas — “create a topic called Fundraising Strategy and link it to the investors in my contacts” — and it will set it up.
Where Topic Data Is Stored
Section titled “Where Topic Data Is Stored”Each topic is stored as a markdown file at:
<vault>/atlas/network/topics/{id}.mdYou can edit these files directly, add your own sections, or link to them from other notes.
Using Topics in Conversation
Section titled “Using Topics in Conversation”Because topics are stored in your vault, Atlas can reference them naturally. Try:
- “What’s connected to my Fundraising Strategy topic?”
- “Add Marcus Rivera to the AI Research topic”
- “Show me everything related to the product launch”
- “Create a new topic for our Series A prep and link the relevant investors”
Topics make it easy to ask Atlas for a high-level view — “catch me up on everything related to climate tech” — and get a summary that spans contacts, organizations, and notes.
