Privacy Settings
Atlas is designed with a local-first privacy model. Your notes, CRM data, and memory files never leave your computer. The privacy settings below give you additional control over what the AI can access and how file changes are handled.
What Stays on Your Machine
Section titled “What Stays on Your Machine”The following data is never uploaded to the cloud, regardless of your settings:
- Vault notes and files
- CRM people, organizations, and topics
- Long-term memory files (facts, session summaries, user profile)
- Relationship graph data
- Plugin data and configurations
What Goes to the Cloud
Section titled “What Goes to the Cloud”When you use AI chat or voice features, the following is sent to Atlas’s servers (and then to OpenAI for processing):
- Chat messages: The text you type in the chat input, plus relevant vault notes that Atlas includes as context
- Voice audio: Recordings you make for speech-to-text transcription
Nothing is stored on Atlas’s servers beyond what OpenAI processes. Usage data (message counts, minutes used) is tracked for billing purposes.
Contact Access Settings
Section titled “Contact Access Settings”Local AI Contacts Access
Section titled “Local AI Contacts Access”Default: On
When enabled, Atlas can include your CRM contacts in conversations. This means the AI can reference people, organizations, and relationships from your network when answering questions or taking actions.
Turn this off if you’d prefer the AI to have no awareness of your contacts.
Cloud AI Contacts Access
Section titled “Cloud AI Contacts Access”Default: On
When enabled, contact information may be included in the context sent to the cloud AI for processing. This is what allows Atlas to say things like “Based on your notes about Sarah Chen, here’s what I know…”
Turn this off if you want to prevent any contact data from being sent outside your machine, even as part of a chat message.
File Change Preview
Section titled “File Change Preview”These settings add a confirmation step before Atlas writes to your vault. They’re useful if you want to review and approve every change before it’s saved.
Preview Before Creating New Files
Section titled “Preview Before Creating New Files”Default: Off
When enabled, any time Atlas would create a new note, it shows you a diff preview first. You can approve or reject the change before it’s written.
Preview Before Editing Daily Notes
Section titled “Preview Before Editing Daily Notes”Default: Off
When enabled, Atlas shows a preview before making any changes to your daily note.
