Voice Settings
Voice settings control how Atlas listens to you and speaks to you. All voice features require an active Talk plan or higher.
FFmpeg Status
Section titled “FFmpeg Status”Before anything else, check that FFmpeg is installed — it appears as a status indicator at the top of the Voice settings section. FFmpeg is required for recording, chunking, and processing audio.
If FFmpeg is not detected, voice features won’t work. See Voice Not Working for installation instructions.
TTS Voice
Section titled “TTS Voice”Choose the voice Atlas uses when speaking responses aloud. Available voices depend on what OpenAI offers for your tier. Try a few to find one you like — voice preference is very personal.
TTS Speed
Section titled “TTS Speed”Range: 0.5 – 2.0 | Default: 1.0
Controls how fast Atlas speaks.
- 0.5: Half speed — noticeably slow, useful for accessibility or careful listening
- 1.0: Normal speed
- 1.5: Comfortably faster for experienced listeners
- 2.0: Very fast — takes getting used to, but saves time
TTS Enabled
Section titled “TTS Enabled”Default: On
Toggles voice output on or off entirely. When disabled, Atlas shows text responses only and never plays audio, even in voice mode.
Voice Mode
Section titled “Voice Mode”Controls how Atlas listens for your voice input. Three options:
| Mode | How It Works |
|---|---|
| Push to Talk | Hold a button to record, release to send |
| Wake Word | Say “Hey Atlas” to activate, then speak your message |
| Both | Either method works — your choice in the moment |
Push to Talk is more reliable in noisy environments. Wake word is more hands-free and convenient when you’re at your desk.
Wake Word Enabled
Section titled “Wake Word Enabled”Toggles “Hey Atlas” detection on or off independently of the voice mode setting. If you set your voice mode to “both” but want to temporarily disable wake word, use this toggle.
Wake Word Sensitivity
Section titled “Wake Word Sensitivity”Range: 0.3 – 0.8 | Default: 0.5
Controls how easily Atlas triggers on “Hey Atlas”.
- Lower values (0.3 – 0.4): Fewer false activations, but you may need to speak more clearly or loudly
- Higher values (0.6 – 0.8): Triggers more easily, but may activate on similar-sounding words or background speech
If Atlas activates unexpectedly, lower the sensitivity. If it consistently misses your wake word, raise it.
