Using Templates
Templates are pre-built note structures you can apply whenever you need a consistent format. Instead of recreating the same headings and sections every time you start a meeting note or weekly review, you define the structure once and reuse it.
Listing Your Templates
Section titled “Listing Your Templates”Ask Atlas what templates you have available:
- “List my templates”
- “What templates do I have?”
- “Show me my note templates”
Atlas will return a list of the templates in your vault’s templates folder, along with a brief description of each one if you’ve added one.
Creating a Note from a Template
Section titled “Creating a Note from a Template”Once you know which template you want, ask Atlas to use it:
- “Create a note from the meeting template”
- “Start a new note using the weekly review template”
- “Create a project plan note using the project template — call it Henderson Rebrand”
Atlas applies the template, fills in any built-in placeholders (like {{date}} or {{title}}), and creates the note in your vault. You’ll see the new note open in the editor ready to fill in.
Templates Save Time for Repetitive Note Types
Section titled “Templates Save Time for Repetitive Note Types”Templates shine when you have recurring structures. Common uses include:
- Meeting notes — Attendees, Agenda, Discussion, Action Items
- 1-on-1 notes — Check-in, Goals, Blockers, Follow-ups
- Weekly reviews — Wins, Challenges, Priorities, Reflection
- Project plans — Overview, Goals, Timeline, Stakeholders, Risks
- Research notes — Summary, Key Points, Questions, Sources
- Journal entries — Mood, Highlights, Gratitude, Tomorrow
Any note you find yourself recreating manually is a good candidate for a template.
Auto-Filled Placeholders
Section titled “Auto-Filled Placeholders”When Atlas creates a note from a template, it automatically replaces built-in placeholders with real values:
{{date}}becomes today’s date{{time}}becomes the current time{{title}}becomes the note title you provide{{day}}becomes the day of the week
For custom placeholders (like {{client_name}}), you can either specify the value when asking Atlas to create the note, or fill them in manually afterward.
