Daily Notes

Daily notes give you a dedicated place for each day. One file, one date, stored in your vault as plain markdown. Atlas can create, read, and write to your daily notes during any conversation — so capturing something from your day is as simple as asking.

Each daily note is stored at:

<vault>/daily/YYYY-MM-DD.md

For example, February 24 2026 would be daily/2026-02-24.md.

Atlas creates the file the first time you ask for it on a given day. If the note already exists, Atlas opens the existing one rather than creating a new one.

There are a few ways to get to today’s daily note:

  • Click on the calendar icon in the top right next to settings
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N to open or create today’s note instantly
  • Ask Atlas in chat: “open my daily note” or “show me today’s note”
  • Browse to the daily/ folder in the Files tab

When Atlas creates a new daily note, it uses a default template that includes:

  • A date heading
  • A Tasks section for your to-dos
  • A Notes section for free-form thoughts

You can customize this template to match how you like to organize your day. See Creating Templates for details.

During a conversation, Atlas can:

  • Read your daily note — “what did I note down this morning?”
  • Add to your daily note — “add a note that the client call went well”
  • Add tasks — “add a task to follow up with Marco today”
  • Check tasks — “what are my tasks for today?”
  • Generate a daily report — “summarize what I accomplished today”

Atlas always targets today’s date unless you specify otherwise: “add this to yesterday’s note” or “what was in my note on February 18th?” both work.

Your daily/ folder contains all your past notes in chronological order by filename. You can:

  • Browse them in the Files tab
  • Ask Atlas: “what did I work on last Tuesday?”
  • Search across all your daily notes via the vault search
